quick peak & update

Hello there,

Just wanted to give you a little tease of the quilt I made a few weeks ago. I am getting ready to quilt it......hopefully this week. I will post the entire picture when it is complete.

I just got back from a fabulous weekend with some of the best gals around. It was a scrapbook weekend with Hilltop Memories. Linda does a wonderful job organizing the event and spoils us rotten all weekend long. You won't find a better bunch. We have gals that travel from all over Florida, Alabama and North Carolina...so good to see everyone. The fellowship, laughter, sharing of ideas and supplies makes us totally unaware of the time (which seems to pass VERY fast)...before you know it, it's time for all of our hugs goodbye...until we meet again my friends :-)

Hope you all had a good weekend and got to spend some quality time with family and/or friends....I sure did :-)

Quilts are comforting

I cannot believe that Wes has been retired for 3 weeks now. Time is just flying by. We are managing to get a few things done around the house and he is continuing to work in his garage...which is a HUGE job.

I suppose that I have been taking a little break from sewing the last few weeks and only grabbing a little time here and there. I just finished (this morning) the bright colored quilt. If you click on the picture you will see that these are "beachy" fabrics...even have an old Woody in several of the blocks. The fabric came about in kind of a funny story. My neighbor...love you Kathy....brought over a bag of scraps from a quilt she made and said maybe that I could use them for some of the little wallets that I make. But I decided to make a quilt. What's the old saying, "when life gives you scraps - make quilts", "well when friends give you scraps - you can make quilts too"...lol

The pastel quilts are a sweet Debbie Mum fabric. The pinwheel quilt took forever to piece, but I really like the results. The other one...not sure what the pattern is called is from the scraps as well. Next on the sewing agenda is to make a matching tote bag (diaper bag) from the Debbie Mum fabric.

Hope that you all have a great weekend....and I will try to post more often.

Some exciting things coming up for our family...but more on that later.

Ta-ta for now....hugs,
Teresa

Long time...no see

I just looked at the date of my last post and realized it has been over 2 weeks....wow, did you miss me???

Has been a crazy two weeks.

*My husband retired, but you all know that. We are both trying to get into a schedule or do I want to call it a routine.

*My niece graduated from St. Pete High with honors....congrats Dana.

*My Mom and Aunt Diane came down for the graduation and party...was a great time. You did good Cindy :-)

*I taught a class to 4 wonderful ladies at Pink Florida Threads on Thursday and went back to hang with 5 more wonderful ladies on Saturday.

*School is out and we will have the boys (grandsons) everyday now while their mommy is working summer school....soooo, let's just say that it has been busy and will continue that way right on through the summer.

Here's looking at you kid.....catch ya later,

Happy Retirement to my dear Hubby :-)

Friday, May 29, 2009 is Retirement Day for my dear husband.

Everyone dreams of this day and Wes is no exception. He has worked 36 years for Florida Power Corporation a/k/a Progress Energy and has dedicated his entire career to the production and safe working environment of Paul L Bartow Power Plant. It is very fitting that Wes and the Bartow Steam Plant retire at the very same time.

Wes has worked with many wonderful men and women over his 36 years and most know him as a man that says what is on his mind, stands up for what he believes and puts others ahead of himself.

In 1976, Wes and two other men were seriously burned during an explosion at the Power Plant. Wes spent 9 weeks in Tampa General Hospital, but was back to work in four months still dedicated to his job....even more than before. Many have asked him why or how could he go back. He always told them that he was young and needed his job, and this is what I do.

This is the end of one chapter and beginning of a new one full of happines, joys, adventures and fun. Also...our two little guys are sure looking forward to having Papaw here FULL TIME :-)

We are so fortunate to have this caring, wonderful man in our lives...

Happy Retirement Wes.

Shhhh....it's a surprise :-)

I have wonderful neighbors and they are always doing such nice things for everyone. One of them decided to purchase this cute bag for the other and surprised her with it this morning. And surprised she was.

I was so glad to be a part of that joy :-)

This is the Beachy Bag style and I added the optional closure at the sides to pull it in...totally gives it a new look. And...of course we added the accessories.....gotta have those accessories :-)

It's a lovely rainy day in Florida...much needed and much appreciated.

Take care and Happy Monday,
Teresa

I have the hardest time finding purple or lavender fabric that is cute.

I found a lavender dot fabric that was sweet and decided to applique these cute daisys to make my own design....trimmed out with a purple solid and voila......

Lots of pockets inside, denim bottom and handles and snap/tab closure...oh yea...key fob too.

Turtles

Turtles and starfish and fun colors.
This is my medium size, which is large enough to be a shopping bag, a beach bag, a bag to take to the office, a diaper bag or a bag to put in your scrapbook or sewing supplies.

The cell phone holder, eyeglass case and credit card wallet complete the set.

Click on the picture to see all the pockets inside.

Hope your week is going GREAT for you....see you in a day or so with more :-)

Old is now NEW

So you have a jacket hanging in your closet that is really out of style, or it doesn't fit you any more....what is a person to do???

You make it into a neat bag that you can use....use....use :-)
A customer brought me a silk jacket and requested a tote from it. This is the nicest fabric that I have sewn in a very long time.
The lining is a perfect compliment to the fabric. She requested the straps a bit longer, a zipper and lots of pockets inside. And the bonus is that I was able to make the jacket pockets work for the outside as well.

Hope she likes it :-)

Merry and Bright

That is the name of this fabric from Moda...Merry and Bright. I got this fabric on a fun trip this summer to visit my friend Kathy in Maggie Valley. The cutest little quilt shop just drew us in.
We both bought the fabric and decided it would be our project for this winter. I just finished mine up this week.....using my new "free motion" skill to quilt it.
Check out the binding...it is made from sewing all the scraps together to make a long strip.

Not sure who said this first, but: Quilts are soooooo comforting :-)

Beachy Bag and Accesories

This is a special order for a great friend of mine. She picked out the "recycled" fabric and off we went to the design studio. So fun with all the matchy matchy accessories too :-)
