Merry and Bright

That is the name of this fabric from Moda...Merry and Bright. I got this fabric on a fun trip this summer to visit my friend Kathy in Maggie Valley. The cutest little quilt shop just drew us in.
We both bought the fabric and decided it would be our project for this winter. I just finished mine up this week.....using my new "free motion" skill to quilt it.
Check out the binding...it is made from sewing all the scraps together to make a long strip.

Not sure who said this first, but: Quilts are soooooo comforting :-)

Pineapple quilt

Check out this beauty. My wonderful neighbor and I took this VERY fun class at Pink Florida Threads last week. Don't you just LOVE the bright colors? I got very brave...my first attempt at "free motion" quilting and if I do say so myself...did a pretty good job :-) It is really a LOT of fun and as you will see on my next quilt (next post)I am hooked now :-).

How in the world does a week pass and I didn't notice???....lol

Check out this cutie for the cat lovers out there. The outside is sophisticated enough to carry to the office or wherever your heart desires. The lining is so whimsical it is sure to give you a smile every time you open your bag :-) The cute tie can be changed to suit your mood and/or occasion with the black/white stripe tie or purple tie. This bag is my medium size and also has a zipper.

And....accesories are totally in. The eyeglass pouch, cell phone holder and credit card holder compliement the set.

How do you like it???

Have a WONDERFUL Wednesday.......

Baby Shower

This is the large tote (diaper bag) that was our gift to a lovely lady today for her Baby shower/Birthday Party.

Was so good to see so many wonderful friends. We all just don't get to see each other enough. Do we?

The bag is made from a cute Debbie Mumm nursery print with a deco solid blue fabric for bottom and handles. The lining is baby blue with mint green pockets complimented by the stripe fabric.

I hope that our little Mommy will enjoy using it as much as I did making it. Hugs Rebecca :-)

Tribute to a loved one

Our clothing surely tells our story and gives our family a memory forever. I was so honored when this family asked me to put together this tribute quilt to honor the memory of their loved one.

This is the same type quilt that I made with my son's high school t-shirts and will be presenting to him in the very near future......

Hope you are enjoying your week.

Take care......will be back soon :-)

Elephants :-)

Just finished the bedroom ensemble for a client. This is for her grandaughter who lives in Massachusetts. The 7 yr old loves elephants, and I hope she will love her quilt (it's folded for the picture, but is a queen), matching pillowcases, window valance and little pillow :-)

Special order for Jill

You ask and you shall receive :-)

Jill requested a cosmetic bag that is 14 inches tall and 12 inches wide to hold the taller bottles that we all need when traveling (shampoo, etc).
The bag is plastic lined with a zip at top and also has a wrist strap at the side.

The fabric used is the ever popular Fruit Ladies and matches a tote that was also ordered.

Have a great time on your cruise.

TGIF

Are you glad it's Friday? The week just flies by in my studio. I have been a very busy bee this week. A client asked me to make a bedspread for her grandaughter. She bought a plain white quilt from Home Goods and then we added fabric to the top of that. It turned out really neat and I am sure the lucky little girl will be thrilled. Making valances and pillow cases to match too. Pictures to follow.

I also made 4 more of my Tag-a-long totes (pictured here).

And, some eyeglass pouches to match a few of the bags that I have already made. I made these a few years ago and they were very popular, so decided to bring them back.

You can see the Totes, eyeglass pouches, ECO-bags and more at Pink Florida Threads. Be sure to mark your calendar for the Antique Alley Spring Antique Show on Sunday, March 8, 2009 from 9 am to 4 pm. See you there :-)

Have a GREAT day...

little green number

This little green number is made from "rescued fabric" and started out as a linen shirt. It has beading on one of the flowers and diagonal button trim. The lining is black with a black/white stripe fabric trim at the top edge of handbag as well as the inside pocket. Black handles and snap closure.

Happy Monday Y'all

It's been a while since my last post...I know...I know. :-)

I have been a little preoccupied with family, sewing, friends and fun. So, that's a good thing...right?

Mom and Richard just left to go back to cold Kentucky and to assess the damage from the ice storm and now the wind damage that went through last week. They surely have had their share so far this year. Let's just pray that they have a nice summer with enough rain to make for a beautiful garden.

Last week, our oldest grandson hurt his foot and we thought for sure it was broken...but the X-rays say it is just badly sprained. He has been babying it for over a week now and still limping a bit.

Saturday, I went to a wonderful crop presented by Hilltop Memories at a lovely church in Sarasota, Florida. Linda sure did pamper us for a wonderful Valentine's day crop. When I got home, hubby had cleaned the house and had flowers for me. Awwww...aint he sweet? Life is GOOD!!!

I have been collecting more of the rescued (recycled) garments and making a few more bags. I am getting great revues on these and having so much fun putting them together.
As long as I can remember, one of my greatest joys has been to take something discarded and make it new again. Once I found an old oak chair along side the road. It had a cained seat that was destroyed and was even missing a piece of wood...but the chair was too pretty to just let it go. I cleaned the wood, stained, varnished, replaced the wood and even recained the seat. Love that little chair.
That's how I feel about these purses/bags. Take an old shirt or skirt that is no longer needed or wanted. The fabric is usually a bit limp, and I wash (sanitize), and prep the fabric with a special process and voila.....new again. :-)

This is the bag that I made this weekend from a skirt...check out the cutwork and beading. Love this little bag....

Have a great day. I will be back later in the week with another bag that I am working on.
